"The Worst Government Ever is Being Set Up"

By Yechiel Sever, G. Lazar and B. Rabinowitz

"Before our very eyes, one of the worst governments is being put together, most evil in every area and by every measure. Its very basis is founded upon hatred, persecution and hypocrisy , which will arouse vehement opposition. We are expecting it and prepared for it with a sense of mission, and will fight it with determination and purpose," said the MK representatives of Degel HaTorah, Rabbi Moshe Gafni, Rabbi Uri Maklev and Rabbi Yaakov Asher.

Head of the Knesset Finance Committee Rabbi Gafni said this week, "One of the most virulent governments in the history of the state is about to be created, worst in every area and in every aspect. From the Torah viewpoint — the attempts to strike at Torah students; from the religious view — to strike at the religious status quo and from the financial aspect, to promote the interests of the rich and hurt the middle and weaker income levels. This government will encounter very strong opposition, a very professional one which will protect the rights of Torah scholars, of religious matters and also the rights of citizens — lest they suffer at the hands of this wicked government."

Rabbi Uri Maklev said, "This government is based exclusively on hatred, religious persecution and hypocrisy. I hope and trust that this government fails, that political bonds which are totally founded upon hate will have no tenure. But until that time, we will have to fight it with force, and struggle for our rights and lives upon many fronts. We are prepared for it and committed to fight with determination on every single point, with great concern, determination and accountability. Torah Jewry is experienced with many such situations of the past. We are embarking upon an untrodden path but permeated with a sense of holy mission, and prepared to do what is incumbent upon us with full responsibility."
