The Planning Committee of the City of Jerusalem
approved a plan to restore and renovate that Tiferes
Yisroel shul in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of
Jerusalem.
The shul will cover 275 square meters (about 2,750
square feet) and be three stories tall, while rising to
a total height of 23 meters due to its dome. The
remaining ruins will be incorporated in the new
structures.
The shul was dedicated in 5633 (1873) as the major
chassidic shul in the Old City. It stood until 1948
when it was destroyed by Jordan after it took control
of the entire Jewish Quarter of the Old City.
