We Must Guard the Torah and its Scholars from all Harm

The Rosh Yeshiva wrote his stirring letter as a response to
the drastic decisions of the Perry Committee whose aim is to
harm the community of yeshiva students and avreichim through
a series of come-ons and enticements on the one hand, while
imposing economic and civil sanctions in a futile and wicked
attempt to foil the continued study of Bnei Torah who have
always borne upon their shoulders the very perpetuity of the
Jewish people throughout history — by ejecting them
from the halls of Torah to the army and the `work force'.
As a response to the above mentioned letter, a rallying cry
will resound, beginning this past Tuesday, from all the
halls of Torah in Eretz Yisroel and throughout the world, to
hold chizuk assemblies on Thursday, everywhere, to
strengthen Torah study on Fridays and Shabbosim. Roshei
yeshiva and heads of kollelim will call upon all those
occupying the benches of batei medrash to arouse Heavenly
mercy through uninterrupted Torah study, and to augment
prayer and pleading before our Master to rescind all the
harsh decrees against Torah scholars.
