"You should know that you won't succeed. The Torah world
will continue to flourish and whoever wishes to study will
continue to do so. You are selling illusions and creating
headlines in order to deflect attention from your
devastating economic blunders."
This was stated this past Monday in the Knesset plenum by MK
Rabbi Yaakov Asher when he presented his no-confidence bill
on behalf of UTJ and Meretz regarding the economic decrees,
the government's cracking down on its citizens and the high
cost of living. This no-confidence bill, together with
others of its kind, were voted down by a majority of the
coalition members at that Knesset session.
He also appealed to the Treasury Minister and the members of
Yesh Atid, saying: "Halt this insensible economic process.
Enough incitement, enough deflection [homonymic in Hebrew]
of the spotlights away from the real problems of this
horrible budget program. Mr. Treasury Minister, step down
and examine the problem at ground level, go to the
disadvantaged neighborhoods, learn the facts from close up
and try to understand that when the people demonstrate, they
are not demonstrating against themselves but against you.
Descend to the common folk."
