"We Will Change This Disproportionate Cut to the Yeshivos"

By Eliezer Rauchberger

The disproportionate and unfair cut in the budgets of chareidi yeshivos will be changed. This was declared on Monday by Deputy Education Minister, MK Avi Wortsman (Habayit HaYehudi) in a discussion that took place in the science committee of the Knesset on the subject of the Treasury's intention to cut the budgets for chareidi students coming from abroad to study in Torah institutions. MK Wortsman noted that there is no reason for the cutback and the payments really help the country's overall budget and balance of payments by encouraging foreign students to spend time in Israel.

Rabbi Gafni, who heads the committee discussing the issue, noted that those foreign students are not expected serve in the army or to join the economy, and the cuts just show the extreme prejudice against the Torah world.
