Bnei Brak the Tenth Largest City in Israel

According to the information of the Central Population Registry of the Interior Ministry, Bnei Brak has 178,787 residents, bli ayin hora. Seven months ago, at the start of 5773, it had 176,556 residents.

City spokesman Avrohom Tannenbaum said that Bnei Brak's total population is rising steadily, even though the city is very crowded and there is a dearth of land upon which to build new housing. The city is working all the time to try to make the best and most efficient use of all the resources that it has.

The population breakdown according to age is as follows:

0 to 5: 31,982; 6-12: 29,079; 13-17: 18,151; 18-21: 14,032; 22-40: 42,246; 41-60: 24,998. From 60 and up: 18,299.

In accordance to the statistics from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the average family size in Bnei Brak is 4.2, among the highest of all the large and medium-sized cities in the country.
