Conclusions of the Kennes of Rabbonim

"Not to Lend a Hand to the Destruction of Judaism"

The protocol of decisions was read aloud at the end of the assembly:

Israeli rabbonim express their deep concern over the ill winds blowing lately in Israel, whose purpose is to strike at the religious values and procedures practiced ever since the beginning of statehood. The rabbis appeal to the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers not to lend a hand to destroy Judaism and not to turn the State of Israel into a country like all other countries. This must remain the State of Jews. It has subsequently been decided as follows:

1. We hereby call upon the Minister of Religions, Naftali Bennet, and his deputy Eliyahu Ben Dehan, requesting that they establish a guidance committee of several rabbonim comprised of rabbinical representatives of the various rabbinical committees of cities, settlements and neighborhoods, and representatives of the Chief Rabbinate as well as representatives of the minister, to deal with all the currently relevant topics before any decisions are arrived at, in order to consult and discuss with experts and professionals and the incumbent rabbonim who are the spiritual mentors bearing the responsibility of their office and their public.

This staff shall examine, among other things, the ways of preventing irreparable damage in the areas of: creating new marriage registration centers, new ideas in the area of kashrus, work procedures for rabbonim, an ethical committee for rabbonim, and any change in the status quo in various legislative subjects involving rabbinical matters vis a vis the state.

2. Rabbis in Israel declare their total objection to any recognition of so-called Reform rabbis. Let there be no falsification of Halochoh, which is the accepted way where every rabbi receives his appointment from the Chief Rabbinate council which will be the one to decide whether the candidate is qualified to hold a rabbinical position.

3. Israeli rabbis shall establish a working committee to examine ways to raise the regard for religion and the rabbinate in the State of Israel. It will examine ways on the public, publicity and legal fronts with help from various relevant bodies in that field.

We come here to affix our signature at this `gathering of the heads of the people with the uniting of Jewish tribes.'
