Kosovo Police: Cemetery Vandals Not Identified

By R. Hoffner

In Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, police investigators have yet to track down the vandals who desecrated graves in the local Jewish cemetery last week, spray-painting graffiti and slogans such as "Jews out" on dozens of gravestones that were refurbished just months ago in a joint project with volunteers from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and students from the American University in Kosovo.

Following the cleaning and refurbishing work months ago, a ceremony was held where students read aloud the names of Jewish families from the area killed during World War II.

A police spokesman told reporters that the police have closed the cemetery and are now in search of clues regarding the identity of the vandals. He believes the incident took place last Tuesday, saying he cannot divulge further details.
