Speyer, Germany: Synagogue Reopened 73 Years After Kristallnacht

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Council of European Rabbis (CER) President HaRav Pinchos Goldschmidt and German Federal President Christian Wulff inaugurated the new synagogue in Speyer, Germany 73 years to the day after it was destroyed in 1938 during Kristallnacht.

Hundreds of participants from various Jewish communities in Germany were on hand for the distinguished ceremony, including CER representatives from different parts of Europe, representatives of the German government and representatives of the municipal district.

During the event President Wulff said the renewal of Jewish life in Germany is a gift. "We are pleased the new synagogue has been built and that people can come to pray in it," he said.
