Jewish Politicians Booted from French Socialist Party Ahead of
Elections
By Arnon Yaffeh, Paris
The ousting of four Jewish representatives to the French Parliament
from the Socialist Party has raised suspicions of a campaign to purge
Jews from the French left. The four Jews were replaced by anti-Israeli
politicians from The Greens, based on an agreement between the two
parties.
The Socialists and The Greens reached an election agreement in which
four Greens candidates, who had no chance of election without the
Socialist Party, would run in four Parisian districts as Socialist
candidates. But only Jewish delegates were sacrificed to make room for
the Greens candidates.
The French Greens Party chose a Norwegian antisemite as its
presidential candidate and operates as an anti-Zionist organization,
whose leaders took part in the flotilla to Gaza.
A Jewish activist commented that the removal of the four delegates in
Paris "smacks of a return to the discriminatory anti-Jewish laws from
the days of the collaborators with the Nazis under the Vichy
regime."
