A very moving event this past Monday launched the new "VeHeishiv" fund, established by HaRav Chaim Kanievsky. Its purpose is to help the public of yirei shomayim absolve itself individually of the terrible sin of stealing, incurred through unpaid and forgotten debts.
The administration of this new fund signed a charter of regulations formulated by a roster of prominent poskim answering to the Torah obligation of `returning the theft', thereby assuming the necessary responsibilities for absolving the public of this sin.
The new fund was established in conjunction with the Free Loan Gemach of Rabbi Feigenbaum from Jerusalem, and constitutes refreshing news to the chareidi public in providing a wonderful solution to the problem of unsettled and forgotten debts, so timely now before the Yomim Noraim. It is also a good way for children to accrue merits for deceased parents who may have left behind outstanding, forgotten debts.
Since with said forgotten debts, there is no way to pay them, one may be absolved of them by depositing a corresponding probable sum in the Gemach. The Gemach acquires, according to the detailed clauses stated in the charter, those debts from the debtors, whatever they may be, while crediting the donors with the merits accrued by the loan of those fund via the Gemach. This money is not reclaimable by the depositors — until the coming of Eliyahu, who will settle all accounts.
