The level of the Kinneret has dropped by 70 cm. this past summer which constitute a volume of 117 million cubic meters and should fall no more than a total of 1.3 meters by the expected beginning of the winter rains. Despite last year's blessed rainfall, the Kinneret is still missing 3.2 meters to its top level, which translates into half a billion cubic meters of water.
"The public has rallied to the call for water economy," the Water Authority reported happily, adding that according to their forecast, the impressive rise this past winter of 2.33 meters, together with the reduction of pumping and the preservation of a stable level, has enabled the Lake to enter this upcoming rainy season with a level above the lower red line for the first time since the summer of 2007.
Added facts show that from the end of the rise in the water level this past May, until the present day, the water level has dropped by 70 cm. The models of forecast in the Water Authority predict that in the worse scenario of a relatively dry winter, the level might drop another 60 cm, leaving the level still at 40 cm. above the red line by the beginning of the rainy season of 2012/2013.
