This Week: Huge Reforms in Public Transportation in North and Central Jerusalem

By Y. Sheinfeld

After five years of planning, the bus routes in the northern and central chareidi neighborhoods of Jerusalem will undergo major changes, beginning Friday, the 9th of Tammuz (29/6/12). Six new lines will be launched and two will undergo changes to replace the five routes which will be discontinued. Sixteen other lines will also undergo changes in their routes.

A broad publicity program has been prepared whereby each neighborhood is being supplied with personnel who underwent special training courses and have been stationed by the bus stops to guide the passengers. On the day of the switch over, a special force will have been made available to the public, in a joint effort of the Transportation Ministry, the Jerusalem municipality, Egged and the Israeli police, to see that things run smoothly.

Information on all of the bus routes and the changes can be obtained at the terminals of each line and by dialing *8787. A special command center will provide information and pamphlets in various languages: 073-2331444.
