"Increase Prayer, Spurn Complacency Regarding the Decree of the Drafting of Yeshiva Students"
"We cannot succumb to complacency but must increase our prayers in face of the attempts to renew the decree of mobilizing yeshiva students," was the message of Rosh Hayeshiva R' Aharon Leib Shteinman.
"The government is opposed to inciting and assaulting the chareidi public," was the statement of Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon in the Knesset plenum on Monday, May 7th, when he replied to the bill of no-confidence presented by the Opposition before the dismissal of the Knesset.
Iyar 5772
To my dear friends, students of our yeshiva, Yeshivas Rashbi:
Regarding the decree to annul the military deferment and force Torah students to leave the yeshiva and enter the authority of the army:
Peak readiness is in high gear on the part of security forces and Hatzolah workers as the yearly mass pilgrimage to the Rashbi gravesite in Meiron, which commenced Wednesday afternoon and continues until after Lag BaOmer. Over 4,600 policemen will be spread throughout the entire Meiron area and thousands of Ichud Hatzolah volunteers will be posted in special stations erected to provide emergency first aid to the visitors. The public will be praying for the intercession of R' Shimon bar Yochai and his son, R' Elazar, for the speedy and complete recuperation of Maran R' Yosef Shalom Eliashiv in particular, and for the yeshua of Klal Yisroel. A special public prayer will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Lag BaOmer in the compound of the cave for his recovery.
"Pray and plead exceedingly," was the moving cry issued by gedolei Yisroel to all yeshivos and Torah centers to storm the Heavens for the recovery of Maran R' Yosef Shalom Eliashiv. In their letter, publicized in Tuesday's paper, they write: "In view of the critical condition of Rabban shel Yisroel, Maran R' Yosef Shalom Eliashiv, the masses of Jewry and especially the students of chadorim, yeshivas and kollelim throughout the world, are urged to rouse heavenly mercy through prayer and intensified study for the full recovery of Rabbenu Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha, in the hope that the A-mighty will not reject the prayers of the public and will send him a speedy and full recovery."
When the Rav HaKodosh of Ruzhin was thrown into prison
for twenty-two months, his son Mordechai Feivish was
only two years old. During those two years, his
education was entrusted to his holy brothers. Then it
was transferred back to his father when he was
released.
From Our Archives
From a historical perspective it seems likely that the way the world has related to Jews in the past year is a return to "normalcy" and the relatively benign view of us that has dominated public discourse in the past half-century is the aberration.
The yishuv is presently going through one of its most difficult periods. We need plenty of Heaven's mercy. Yishmoel's sword is still gleaming. He has not yet surrendered his age-old weapon. When an individual is in need, he pours his heart out to his Creator. Troubles of the Klal, also happen because HaKodosh Boruch Hu desires their prayers. Reb Yeruchom zt'l, tells us that "the reason for all misfortunes is that they are a means of attaining, `and they cried out' (Shemos 14:10), whereby Hashem's Name is invoked," (Daas Chochmoh Umussar, vol.1 pg.7). Now is such a time, a time for "they cried out," a time for communal prayer.
