An "Alei Siach" Initiative: The First Hostel for Young Autistic Children

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

A momentous achievement was scored for parents of autistic children with the opening of a new hostel. This protected environment serves the needs of children aged six to eight. The Alei Siach network of hostels, numbering twenty apartments mostly for adults suffering from retarded development, autism and other syndromes, is spread throughout Jerusalem. This program is geared to young adults who could not remain in their home environment, whereas in their hostels, they receive expert professional individualized attention with resources especially designed for their specific handicaps through trained and caring personnel.

The new apartment, located in the Bayit Vegan area, is the first one to accommodate young children who were up till now home-based, outside of their various daily educational and therapeutic frameworks.
