Finance Committee Chairman MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni fired a stiff attack against the Education Ministry and the court, which have been closing ranks to thwart the success of the Torah-based education system, making every effort to undermine Torah-true educational frameworks.

Efforts to Save Jaffa Cemetery Continue

A rally was held Wednesday to pray, protest and express grief over the evil decree to raze the ancient Jewish cemetery in Jaffa. Gedolei Torah, admorim and rabbonim stood opposite the site, invoking the words of Selichos — "Aseh lema'an shochnei offor" — in impassioned calls against plans by the project heads and government authorities to continue harming Jewish graves at an additional site in the cemetery.


Rabbi Maklev Defends Conversion `Stringencies' in IDF

Opponents of halachic conversion "cannot strike fear in the hearts of rabbonim and dayonim, who will continue to perform conversions only in accordance with halacha as handed down to us from Mt. Sinai," said MK Rabbi Uri Maklev this week in a meeting of the Knesset's State Control Committee on the issue of conversion in the IDF.

Rav Dovid Zimmerman relates: "One Hoshanoh Rabba towards the end of our master's life, a childless avreich arrived at his succah. He and his wife had not had a child for almost twenty years. Our master was in a good mood and even though he usually avoided giving blessings — and would sometimes argue and bargain before agreeing to do so — the attitude he took towards them during Succos was different to that of the rest of the year.
