New Israeli Government Budget has News for Chareidim
For the first time ever, one of the original goals of Degel Hatorah
was achieved: the entire government support for yeshivas was included
in the basic budget and not in special allocations. About a billion
shekels are included in the budgets for fiscal 2011 and 2012 that were
passed by the Knesset on Wednesday.
House Committee Advances IDF 'Conversion' Bill to Constitution
Committee
United Torah Judaism representatives in the Knesset told Prime
Minister Binyamin Netanyahu early this week that advancing the IDF
Conversion Law is a blatant violation of the coalition agreement and
of clear pledges he made not to advance the law beyond the preliminary
reading and not to appear at any committee meetings to discuss the
law.
To mark the first anniversary since the founding of the Tzipporah
Fried Alzheimer's Support Center, a panel of top experts gathered to
respond to questions posed by patients' family members regarding
strategies to cope with the disease on a day-to-day basis. The panel
was part of a professional workshop held this week.
The new real estate map of Israel is changing. The real estate market
is responding to price increases by heading out to peripheral areas,
some of which have never been at the top of real estate activity in
the country.
At the end of a heated meeting the Knesset Finance Committee united to
issue a unanimous decision to prevent the closure of Bikur Hospital in
central Jerusalem, but a Finance Ministry representative said the
government does not intend to channel funds to the hospital to keep it
afloat.
Mo'ach Velev, an organization set up to foster the study of Mussar and
good character traits among bnei Torah, is holding a gathering
in Jerusalem on Motzei Shabbos Parshas Va'eiroh.
