Scandal: Bank of Israel Governor Lectures at World Monetary Fund on Shabbos

Chareidi MKs protested the conduct of Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Stanley Fischer for delivering a lecture on Shabbos while attending a World Monetary Fund conference as an official representative of the State of Israel.
According to reports Fischer was invited to speak at 3:00 p.m. on Shabbos afternoon at a conference in Washington DC.
Finance Committee Chairman MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, considered a friend of Fischer, said if the information is substantiated his action treads underfoot the sanctity of Shabbos. "He is the highest ranking government figure to desecrate Shabbos openly in such a manner, although he was representing the State of Israel and knew it was Shabbos Kodesh," Rabbi Gafni said. "This is unconscionable and cannot be overlooked."
Rabbi Gafni even canceled a meeting he was scheduled to hold with the Bank of Israel governor on Tuesday.
