HaRav Yaakov Neiman zt"l

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

HaRav Yaakov Neiman zt"l, who was born and raised in Brisk, where he became a leading talmid of HaRav Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik, and later became a distinguished rov in the US, passed away at the age of 101. The levaya in Jerusalem took place on Monday 13 Kislev.

As a young man he studied at Yeshivas Toras Chessed in Brisk under the author of Imrei Moshe, before going on to become one of the Brisker Rov's leading students.

During the war he went to Vilna with his family and escaped to Shanghai with Mir Yeshiva. After the war he was among many Mir students who settled in the US, where he served in the Chicago rabbinate for over 50 years. Upholding the bounds of Jewish tradition was no easy task during the postwar period, but he stood firm.

In 5755 (1995) he moved to New York, where he headed Beis Medrash HaRov, which was in memory of his own rov muvhok, HaRav Yitzchok Zev.

On Shabbos Kodesh Parshas VaYeitze he returned his soul to his Maker. The levaya set out on Sunday from Yeshivas Shaar Yoshuv in Lawrence, New York, before resuming in Eretz Yisroel on Monday at Yeshivas Mir-Jerusalem.

He was buried at Har Hazeisim.
