Glasses and Hearing Aid Distribution

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The first center for the distribution of glasses and hearing aids in exchange for token fees was recently dedicated in Jerusalem. Mishkan Hare'iyah is supplementing the government's efforts to meet vital needs which, due to budget constraints, the state cannot provide. Since its founding the organization has handed out 20,000 pairs of glasses and hundreds of hearing aids to children and older people with limited financial means.

The project was started under former Jerusalem mayor Uri Lupoliansky, who supported and accompanied the crucial effort made by Laurent Levy, owner of Optical Center, which has over 260 optician shops in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Levy decided to set up the philanthropic center to help the city's needy in a dignified manner.

"The goal of the organization Mishkan Hare'iyah is to enable every child and elderly person in Jerusalem to see and hear regardless of hid socioeconomic status. I believe that in addition to the desire to contribute one has to know how to contribute as well. Therefore I set up a prestigious, well-furnished center in order to uphold the dignity of families who come to the organization," Levy explained.
