Vaad HaRabbonim LeInyonei Giyur: The Chief Rabbinate
Should Dissociate Itself from Conversion Authority
Muli Jesselson was recently selected to serve as director of
the Chief Rabbinate's conversion administration in place of
Moshe Klein, who was forced to resign for technical reasons
after his predecessor, Rabbi Chaim Druckman, was forced into
early retirement.
UTJ signed a coalition agreement with Jerusalem Mayor Nir
Barkat that includes a pledge to uphold the religious status
quo and the city's Jewish character, and to form a
partnership in running the city and seeing to the needs of
all its residents, including the educational and religious
needs of Jerusalem's chareidi sector. The move and the
subsequent decisions were made after consulting with
gedolei Yisroel shlita.
Rabbenu HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita recently
related his opinion and pain regarding the inadequate degree
of modesty many of today's shaitels afford, saying ladies who
wear such wigs fall below the obligation referred to by
Chazal as "Das Yehudis." He also noted that many of today's
shaitels do not look like wigs at all, in which case they are
certainly forbidden to wear.
