BBC Tried to Conceal Murder of Jews in Mumbai Attack
By Arnon Yaffeh, Paris
Western reporters refuse to refer to the mass murderers who
attacked the Chabad House and hotels in Mumbai as killers and
avoided using the word "terrorists," instead describing them
as "activists" or "Islamic militants." In the Wall Street
Journal Tom Gross wrote about the destructive role the
world media has played in the war against terror. The BBC and
news agencies refused to call the massacre a "terrorist
attack" although nearly 200 people were killed by their
bullets. Instead they spoke of a commando operation.
Even more appalling were the references to Jews. The BBC
failed to note the Chabad House was attacked as a Jewish
target and European newspapers barely mentioned the killing
of Jews. In a letter to the editor of the Wall Street
Journal, Michael Horesh of Givat Ze'ev wrote, "The BBC's
playing down of the Jewish targets of the Mumbai attack
reminds me of the writings of the influential Left Wing Book
Club in the 1930s. For years they saw Nazi Germany as a rock
against the Soviets, ignoring the antisemitism of Hitler.
Terror is terror in all its forms. It is lamentable, and
incomprehensible, how many BBC and other journalists won't
acknowledge that."
A reader from London wrote: "...Certain media, notably the
BBC and the New York Times, tried to de-emphasize the
fact that Jews were targeted in the Mumbai terror attacks. In
fact, a disproportionately high number of Jews were among the
foreign victims of the attacks. To anybody familiar with
Islamist political theory, the reason for this should be
clear... Glance at any Islamist Web site, read the speeches
of Hizbullah or the Hamas Covenant. Killing Jews, because
they are Jews, is one of the recurring features of Islamist
political theory. I don't think I saw a single commentator
make this simple observation. Islamists, however, make it all
the time."
