Two Shuls Firebombed in France
By Arnon Yaffeh, Paris
Violence and antisemitism in France as a result of the war in
Gaza against Hamas ratcheted up this week when three
assailants, with heads and faces covered by keffiyahs, hurled
firebombs at a shul in St. Denis in the 93rd administrative
department (known locally as L'neuf Trois) in the heart of an
Arab suburb Sunday night, 16 Teves (11 Jan).
A few hours later firebombs were thrown at a beis
knesses in Eastern France, shattering against the front
of the shul without causing damage inside. However, the
dining hall at a school near the beis knesses in St.
Denis caught fire and burned. The second floor of the school
houses autistic children who eat in the dining hall.
Elsewhere in France antisemitic graffiti was found on the
walls of a high school. The local rov in St. Denis reported
that three firebombs ready for use were left hidden along the
side of the street along with rocks the attackers left
behind. They used rocks to break the windows and then tried
to get the firebombs inside. They apparently planned to
strike other botei knesses in L'neuf Trois. Meanwhile
Jewish students have been subject to harassment by other
students at local schools.
Fear in the kehilloh is on the rise as Arabs and pro-
Palestinians take over the streets of France in unbridled
antisemitic demonstrations as French authorities overlook
incitement and violence. The official radio station, France
Info, inflames Arabs by broadcasting the kind of false
reports common on Al Jazeera. All day Monday French radio
reported most of the 1,000 casualties in Gaza were children.
One Arab from the suburbs told Radio Europe that the footage
from Gaza enrages him.
