19 New Dayanim Chosen
By Yechiel Sever

After a delay of almost four years, 19 new dayanim were finally chosen by the Committee to Appoint Dayanim. Most of the delays were caused by various motions to the High Court in protest at earlier appointments and potential appointments.

Modi'in Illit Employment a Model to be Followed
by A. Cohen

Professor Manuel Trachtenberg, who is in charge of designing a plan for the future economic development of Israel in the Prime Minister's Office, said that the employment solutions for chareidi women that are being used in Modi'in Illit (Kiryat Sefer) are a model that should be followed elsewhere in Israel.

OPINION & COMMENT

No Simchah is Like the Simchah of the Torah

The Psak of Reb Chaim For Reb Boruch Ber About Singing in Yeshivos

It was customary for the Rosh Yeshiva of Beer Yaakov to clarify at the beginning of each new zman that his frequently sitting down to sing together with his talmidim is not something he innovated. Acting in such a way is a lesson that he learned from Maran Reb Boruch Ber Leibowitz zt'l, the rosh yeshiva of Kamenitz Yeshiva.

Additional Luach Information

I>Hoshana Rabba falls on Wednesday, 21 Tishrei (Oct. 3). At Shacharis we add the pesukei dezimra of Shabbos except for nishmas, all of the hoashana prayers, and afterwards we beat the hoshanos on the floor.

In Eretz Yisroel, Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah fall on Thursday, 22 Tishrei (Oct. 4). In Chutz La'aretz, Shmini Atzeres falls on Thursday, and Simchas Torah falls on Friday, 23 Tishrei (Oct. 4-5). This year an eiruv tavshilin must be made for those living in Chutz La'aretz on erev Shmini Atzeres.

In Shemoneh Esrei we add Morid HaGeshem from Mussaf of Simchas Torah.

The achronim write that even after Sukkos we should not step on the sechach since it is tashmishei mitzvah like tzitzis and a lulav (Mishnah Berurah 638:24).

On the Shabbos that we read about the ma'aseh bereishis we start saying Borchi Nafshi (Tehillim 104) every Shabbos until Shabbos HaGodol.

Before Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan we do not say Yom Kippur Koton because it is then the month of Tishrei.

Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan falls on Friday, Oct. 12 and Shabbos Oct. 13.
