French Jewish Community Opposes Honoring Israeli Writers
in Paris
By Arnon Yaffeh, Paris
Inviting Israeli writers as the guests of honor at book fairs
in Paris and Turin, Italy, is causing a stir in left-wing
circles and in the French Jewish community, but for different
reasons. Religious and traditional Jews, who comprise the
majority of the active Jewish community in France today, are
concerned over the ignoble representation of Judaism in
secular Israeli literature.
Chinuch Atzmai School in Or Yehuda Spared Third
Electricity Cutoff
By A. Cohen
Following several days of concerted efforts, the threat of
cutting off the electricity for the third time was removed at
Michtav L'Eliyahu, a Chinuch Atzmai school in Or Yehuda,
after the Dessler family, the descendants of HaRav Eliyohu
Dessler zt"l, responded to a request by Rabbi Avrohom
Yosef Lazerson, one of the heads of Chinuch Atzmai, to pay
the school's electricity bill.

Shabbos
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
"The terrible breach effected by opening stores on Shabbos
Kodesh, thereby desecrating and trampling over Shabbos,
cannot and should not be overlooked. We have decided to wage
a determined battle using all the means at our disposal,"
declared Vaadas HaRabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos this
week.

Negligence of Talmidim in Fulfilling Mitzvos
In Bircas Hamozone, Krias Shema, tefillah, bircas HaTorah,
bircas HaShachar, krias HaMegillah, krias HaTorah,
kiddush, and shnayim Mikra ve'echad Targum there
is general neglect and disregard by a great percentage of
talmidim, and surprisingly even by those after their
bar mitzvah.
