UTJ Makes Ready to Battle Harsh Budget Cuts for Torah Institutions
The chareidi public and UTJ were shocked following the release of figures on the proposed Isareli government budget for the coming year that shows truly harsh budget cuts for Torah institutions and religious affairs in the 2008 fiscal year as tabled in the Knesset on Monday this week.
Heavy mourning settled on chareidi Jewry on the night of
Shabbos Bereishis as news spread about the passing of HaRav
Eliezer Platchinsky zt"l, one of the leading roshei
yeshiva from the previous generation who illuminated our
generation with his teachings.
Cloaked in mourning, thousands from Bnei Brak and Jerusalem,
led by maranan verabonon including HaRav Shteinman and
HaRav Kanievsky shlita, took part in the levaya
for HaRav Gedaliah Schneider zt"l, rosh yeshiva of
Yeshivas Toras Emes in London.

The achronim write that even after Sukkos we should not step on the sechach since it is tashmishei mitzvah like tzitzis and a lulav (Mishnah Berurah 638:24).
On the Shabbos that we read about the ma'aseh bereishis we start saying Borchi Nafshi (Tehillim 104) every Shabbos until Shabbos HaGodol.
Before Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan we do not say Yom Kippur Koton because it is then the month of Tishrei.
Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan falls on Friday, Oct. 12 and Shabbos Oct. 13.
