Severe Chicken Shortage
For the first time in years, Eretz Yisroel has seen a
severe shortage of chicken for months. Some companies have
already depleted their stocks of poultry for sale. Shearis
Yisroel stopped all poultry shechitoh for two weeks at
the beginning of Elul and now supplies are extremely low.
Vaadas HaRabbonim Lema'an Kedushas HaShabbos is continuing
its efforts to persuade El-Al executives to accept the
demands issued by gedolei Yisroel shlita in order to
prevent incidents of chilul Shabbos in the future.
A belligerent petition submitted to the High Court includes a
demand that the Justice Minister, the Chief Rabbinate Council
and the Dayanim Appointment Committee appoint "dayanim who
are attorneys."
The government decided this week to approve a proposed law by
Minister Meshulam Nahari that would legally require local
authorities to provide recognized-but-unofficial educational
institutions (meaning Chinuch Atzmai and Maayan Hachinuch
Hatorani) the same funding that government schools receive.
MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni proposed reaching an agreement over the
sum for the religious and chareidi educational systems along
with other religious and chareidi issues and to make a multi-
year arrangement to avoid the necessity for additional
demands annually during the course of the budget year.
The Attorney General received an urgent request to prevent a
group from naming several "secular rabbis" who underwent
training "to conduct Jewish ceremonies that are fundamentally
different from Orthodox ceremonies."
The Ministerial Committee for Legislative Affairs approved a
proposal by Construction and Housing Minister Meir Shetreet
to legislate the Rental Building Law, which is designed to
encourage the construction of rental apartment buildings in
both the private and public sectors.
Rabbi Ravitz Tables Proposal to Keep High Court from
Annulling Laws Passed in Knesset MK Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz tabled a proposal on Monday to
prohibit any court, including the High Court, from annulling
laws that were duly legislated in the Knesset.
The City of Jerusalem and the Construction and Housing
Ministry inaugurated a chareidi community center — the
first of its kind — which will serve the residents of
the city's Ramat Shlomo neighborhood and will be operated
under the close oversight of local rabbonim.
Tender for Jerusalem-Bnei Brak Bus Line The Transportation Ministry is set to issue a tender to
operate Line 422, the new express line between Jerusalem and
Bnei Brak. Both Egged and Dan will be ineligible to vie for
the tender, which is intended only for private bus companies
