Druse Boy Wins Quiz on Jerusalem
By T. Katz
Meet the expert on Jerusalem affairs: Amir Muadi, a 12-year-
old Druse boy from Haifa who came in first place in the
national children's quiz on Jerusalem. Amir, a sixth-grade
student at Fichman School, defeated hundreds of contenders on
his way to the coveted title. He is conversant in every
aspect of the city: Beis Hamikdosh and the sacrifices
(presumably his partners in the quiz were not talmidei
chachomim muvhokim), the Ramban, rabbonim who served in
the city and its rich history of wars, various heads in
different periods, the battles waged to conquer the city in
1967, and much more.
The proud father, Samir Muadi, serves as agricultural affairs
coordinator between the government and the PA. "It's a great
honor for the Druse that my son took first place," he says.
"Amir loves Jerusalem and knows every detail about it. It
seems strange for a Druse child to come in first place in a
quiz on Jerusalem, but it doesn't really surprise me . . . He
strives for excellence."
Muadi is not resting on his laurels. He's hoping to win first
place in the World Jerusalem Quiz. What are his chances? We
suspect, lamentably, that they are quite good.
