Elul, 5767, on the Eve of the Shmittah Year
To All the Chareidim Ledvar Hashem in our Holy Land,
Hashem Aleihem Yichyu
The shmittah year is nearing, and a shmittah
committee has been founded by the mehudar Kashrus
organization of Shearis Yisroel, which will handle all
shmittah issues with great hiddur and
meticulousness, according to the rulings of the Chazon Ish
ztvk"l, without relying on any heteirim or
doubtful measures, under the constant supervision of the
rabbonim hageonim the members of the Badatz of Shearis
Yisroel shlita.

HaRav Chaim Shaul Karelitz.
Vaad HaRabbonim LeInyonei Giyur, founded by the late Antwerp
av beis din HaRav Chaim Kreiswirth zt"l, once
again says that the large-scale "conversion" of the hundreds
of thousands of non-Jews who moved to Israel in recent years
should not be seen as a solution to their problem, as various
figures associated with the government suggest.
According to forecasts by the Central Bureau for Statistics
in 2012 -- less than five years -- almost one in three
students will be enrolled in chareidi schools.
"Only when my grandmother showed her ID card from the Vichy
Regime which had the word 'Juive' [Jew] stamped in
large letters across it, was I allowed to renew my French ID
card," a French Jew told Liberation. According to
dozens of reports, the French Interior Minister is requiring
both Jews and non-Jews from North Africa and other groups to
submit a certificate of Jewishness to prove their French
citizenship.
The Berlin Holocaust Memorial, a 27-million-euro project
whose centerpiece is thousands of cement slabs in the heart
of Berlin inaugurated just two years ago, is already in need
of repairs. Cracks have begun to appear in 393 of the 2,711
blocks of cement.
Numerous bnei Torah turned out for a special evening to
mark the upcoming opening of another simchah hall in
Bnei Brak run by Chasdei Naomi, in addition to the existing
Armonot Chen halls.
Thoughts About the Approaching Shmittah The following is an edited version of the editorial that
appeared seven years ago, on parshas Ki Sovo, in
anticipation of the shmittah year 5761. The Vilna Gaon points out that there are two mitzvos that
encompass our entire bodies: Succah and yishuv Eretz
Yisroel. Taking effect as it does on the yom tov of the
same name, and with conditions that require us to be aware of
the Succah itself, the Succah very much emphasizes to us our
service to Hashem.

According to the Ramo (494:3) we do not say tachanun
from Rosh Chodesh Sivan until after Isru Chag (there
are other minhogim that do not say tachanun
until after the seven days of hashlomoh that follow
Shavuos).
On Rosh Chodesh Sivan we do not say tachanun like on
every Rosh Chodesh. The second of Sivan is called Yom
HaMeyuchas since after yetzias Mitzrayim Hashem
commanded Moshe to say to bnei Yisroel: "Now therefore
if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then
you shall be My own treasure from among all peoples"
(Shemos 19:5) to prepare them for Torah. Afterwards,
the third, forth, and fifth of Sivan are the Sheloshes
Yemei Hagboloh when bnei Yisroel waited for
kabolas HaTorah (Mishnah Berurah 494:8, and see
Shabbos 86-88).
We do not say vetzidkoscho tzedek on Shabbos since it
is the YOm MaMeyuchas
