Vaad HaRabbonim LeInyonei Giyur, founded by the late Antwerp av beis din HaRav Chaim Kreiswirth zt"l, once again says that the large-scale "conversion" of the hundreds of thousands of non-Jews who moved to Israel in recent years should not be seen as a solution to their problem, as various figures associated with the government suggest.

French Interior Ministry Requires Certification of Jewishness to Verify French Citizenship

OPINION & COMMENT

Thoughts About the Approaching Shmittah

The following is an edited version of the editorial that appeared seven years ago, on parshas Ki Sovo, in anticipation of the shmittah year 5761.

The Vilna Gaon points out that there are two mitzvos that encompass our entire bodies: Succah and yishuv Eretz Yisroel. Taking effect as it does on the yom tov of the same name, and with conditions that require us to be aware of the Succah itself, the Succah very much emphasizes to us our service to Hashem.

Additional Luach Information

According to the Ramo (494:3) we do not say tachanun from Rosh Chodesh Sivan until after Isru Chag (there are other minhogim that do not say tachanun until after the seven days of hashlomoh that follow Shavuos).

On Rosh Chodesh Sivan we do not say tachanun like on every Rosh Chodesh. The second of Sivan is called Yom HaMeyuchas since after yetzias Mitzrayim Hashem commanded Moshe to say to bnei Yisroel: "Now therefore if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own treasure from among all peoples" (Shemos 19:5) to prepare them for Torah. Afterwards, the third, forth, and fifth of Sivan are the Sheloshes Yemei Hagboloh when bnei Yisroel waited for kabolas HaTorah (Mishnah Berurah 494:8, and see Shabbos 86-88).

We do not say vetzidkoscho tzedek on Shabbos since it is the YOm MaMeyuchas
