The Date of Saddam Hussein's Hanging
I'm writing this letter in regard to the execution of the
Iraqi dictator who carried on his shoulders much of the
world's hatred towards Am Yisroel.
A certain talmid chochom shlita, upon hearing that the
execution took place on Shabbos Kodesh 9 Teves,
immediately pointed out the description on Makkos 12a
about how the minister of Rome will flee to Batzra and get
killed.
Commenting on the selichos for Asoro BeTeves, the
Chasam Sofer ztvk"l calculates that the final burial
of Yaakov Ovinu olov hasholom was on the 10th or 9th
of Teves (depending on whether the month of Kislev was
molei or choser). His petiroh was on the
first day of Succos, followed by the embalming period and 30
days of mourning, the journey from Egypt to Eretz Yisroel and
then another seven days of mourning (see Chasam Sofer). And
according to the gemora Eisov was killed on the day of
Yaakov Ovinu's burial, which is the day [Saddam Hussein]
died.
May Hashem deliver us from all of our tribulations through
our involvement in Torah and gemilus chassodim and may
we distance ourselves from the nations, burying ourselves in
the botei medrash and not pay any heed to their deeds,
but let Hashem alone exact revenge and redeem us speedily in
our days, amen.
With blessings,
