Following calls by gedolei Yisroel shlita to
strengthen modesty standards, women and girls are choosing to
shop in stores that have accepted upon themselves rabbinical
supervision by Vaadas Hatznius to insure every item is
suitable for bnos Yisroel striving to uphold their
tznius.
The Vaadah was founded through cooperative efforts among
seminary principals who led the move to strengthen modesty
standards. Along with directives to avoid unseemly attire
— sur meiro — they also sought ways to
make appropriate, dignified clothing — va'asei
tov — available to every bas Yisroel
kesheroh.
From the outset, the Vaadah began dispatching teachers and
educators to over 30 stores to check the merchandise on the
racks. Many women and girls avoided stores without oversight,
forcing 15 other store owners to request certification. Many
stores were required to remove various items in order to meet
the criteria set by the inspection committee.
Gedolei Yisroel are encouraging the Vaadah heads to
continue strengthening the ramparts of tznius in Eretz
Yisroel and are calling for constant vigilance in stores.
