Chessed Organizations Aid Sderot Residents

By Yechiel Sever

For three weeks Sderot residents plagued by Kassam rocket attacks have been in a state of complete helplessness, both in terms of their personal safety and their mental and financial state. Various chessed organizations are working to meet the needs of those who remain in the city and for whatever reason have nowhere else to stay, as well as residents who fled with just the clothes on their back.

Bikur Ve'ezras Cholim, a Belz organization headed by Rav Chaim Mordechai Fried, distributed to many residents — including many who couldn't squeeze their way onto the evacuation buses — cold drinks, warm and cold meals and snacks for children. City residents are still ridden with anxiety, but the volunteers tried to help at least by putting the children at ease and helping to provide them with food.

Some of the volunteers even rode on the evacuation buses or in the organization's vehicles and met Sderot residents upon arrival at their respective destinations with a pleasant surprise: individual food baskets.

United (Ichud) Hatzoloh also went to Sderot during these harrowing days. Numerous Magen David Adom and Ichud Hatzoloh medics arrived from Tzfas and the Galilee to assist the emergency and rescue teams in the city, staying in Sderot 24 hours a day.
