Special Efforts to Maintain Respect for Torah Handouts at Meron

By Yechiel Sever

All year long the staff of Vaad Hahalochoh LeInyonei Genizah work hard to prevent disrespect for various handouts that require genizah, but as Lag BaOmer approached this year the organization launched a special campaign, including a widespread informational campaign regarding the distribution of tens of thousands of flyers in Meron, asking all of the organizations that handed out sheets last year containing divrei kedushoh and the sacred names of Hashem to refrain from handing them out this year. Collection bins were also placed in the bus parking lots, along the walkways and at the memorial site itself.

The organization also posted notices in public places and botei knesses to increase awareness of the problem.

Seasoned Meron visitors say that until three years ago there was nowhere to put material in need of genizah and disrespect for divrei kedushoh was rampant — but this year the problem was almost completely under control.

Genizah Klolis workers spent six days at the site installing genizah receptacles, posting signs and, after Lag BaOmer, picking up every last sheet containing kisvei kodesh.
