Jerusalem Wins Five Stars

by Betzalel Kahn

The City of Jerusalem won five stars in the Beautiful City in a Beautiful Israel competition, the maximum rating a city can receive in the first round of the competition. Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky welcomed the achievement, saying he would continue to ensure that Jerusalem retains this esteemed title in the years to come.

This was the City of Jerusalem's fourth year participating in the nationwide contest organized by the Council for a Beautiful Israel. Several aspects of the participating cities, local authorities and regional authorities were assessed: appearance, greenbelts, main streets, public institutions and other central institutions, general maintenance and local initiatives.

Over the past month, the City of Jerusalem has been busy with various cleanup and maintenance projects to improve the look and function of public parks, special sites, wall paintings, benches, signs, streets and sidewalks, trees, planters and plazas, lighting, paper-recycling containers and trash receptacles.
