Shearis Yisroel Expands Kashrus Line
by Betzalel Kahn
Shearis Yisroel continues to expand its product line. Shearis
Yisroel supervises two shechitoh lines: Of Habira,
which is sold by Pulkes, and Of Yerushalayim, which is sold
by Taam Man. All of the hiddurim and stringencies go
beyond standard levels of kashrus, eliminating any concerns
of sircho or any other problems. The lines are fully
guided and overseen by the beis din members,
shlita, who conduct field inspections regularly at all
stages of poultry production, from the injections given to
the growing birds through the shechitoh itself.
Two beef wholesalers, Taam Man and Hacker Bros. import meat
under Shearis Yisroel supervision, and now, due to the large
demand, Polkes has also begun supplying Shearis Yisroel
meat.
On motzei Shabbos a Polkes delegation headed by beis
din member HaRav Mordechai Gross set out for the Pol
Factory in Melo, Uruguay. Before leaving HaRav Gross received
brochos from Maran HaRav Eliashiv, HaRav Kanievsky,
HaRav Lefkowitz, HaRav Shteinman and HaRav Shmuel Auerbach,
shlita, who showed a deep interest in the
shechitoh arrangements, offering suggestions on every
issue and warm blessings for having the merit of placing food
without compromise on the tables of bnei Torah.
Several months ago beis din member HaRav Tzvi Friedman
and the rov of the Shearis Yisroel shechitoh HaRav
Yisroel Zicherman inspected the production center Polkes uses
in Argentina. The factory was found unfit for use because the
cattle herds were mostly from breeds crossbred with zebus.
The present facility was found through concerted efforts and
has agreed to meet all of the necessary kashrus demands, in
terms of the pace of work, the efficiency of the checking and
salting processes and ensuring the herds contain no trace of
zebus, which lack a tradition of tohoroh as Maran
HaRav Eliashiv, shlita, ruled and as the Chazon Ish,
zt"l was known to have said.
Shearis Yisroel notes each of these stringencies results in a
decrease in the percentage of glatt meat, meaning lower
profits—particularly in South America, where most
breeds of cattle do not have a tradition that they are
kosher.
The delegation will spend one month in Uruguay based on a
ruling by Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita not to perform
shechitoh for more than one month at a time.
Another delegation headed by beis din member HaRav
Tzvi Webber traveled abroad last week for a shechitoh
run for the Hacker Bros.
The meat will arrive at stores in Eretz Yisroel in the coming
weeks.
