Sections of the Shas are being distributed to bnei
Torah — including a number of gedolei Torah
— to be studied le'ilui nishmas Rabbeinu Maran
HaRosh Yeshiva zt"l.
The project began during the first year of mourning when
bnei Torah studied ten dapim each, collectively
finishing the entire Shas every month in HaRav Shach's
memory based on a request in his will to "do chessed
for me by learning for my neshomoh even a single
Mishnoh or a single machshovoh, and this will
be my reward, for I dedicated myself to your success." These
words were later engraved on his gravestone as well. "And if
I am able to advocate on your behalf I will do so, bli
neder," he added.
At the end of the year of mourning, Maran's leading
talmidim, based on the advice of gedolei
Yisroel including Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita,
organized an annual distribution of the Shas and
together thousands of lomdim have completed the entire
Shas several times.
This year's distribution of masechtos and blocks of
dapim is being organized by coordinators at Torah
halls everywhere or by calling 054-2095493. (In the US dial
718-755- 4200.) A special line for local volunteers and
coordinators has also been set up at 057-3102346.
Those who made commitments to learn masechtos or a
block of pages as part of the fourth cycle should complete
them by the yahrtzeit this Friday, 16 Cheshvan, the
day of the Avi Ezri's histalkus.
