Country Club in Netanya to Close on Shabbos
by Y. Ariel
The Netanya Country Club will serve the local chareidi public
and will not operate on Shabbos. The new policies follow the
work of Degel HaTorah Councilman Rabbi Moshe Lachover, who is
in charge of the Association for Informal Education. Rabbi
Lachover prevented another country club from operating on
Shabbos and worked to make accommodations for the chareidi
public at the country club now scheduled to open.
The lengthy battle against the other country eventually
succeeded after Degel HaTorah in Netanya prevented it from
opening on Shabbos. Another country club that began
operations responded favorably to Rabbi Lachover's request
and decided to set separate hours for men and women every
night between 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 am. Registration is for a
one-month trial period and if enough interest is shown the
project will continue on a daily basis for one year.
Rabbi Lachover said the public should encourage places that
close their doors on Shabbos, not responding to anti-
religious figures who try to force them through various means
to violate the city ordinances and the Work and Rest Hours
Law.
