A tent to be used as a beis knesses on rainy days has
been erected in the upper section of the Western Wall
Plaza.
The decision was made in light of the renovation work in the
tunnel on the men's side, whose completion date has long
missed the originally scheduled completion date due to
construction problems in the archway. As a result of the
delay there was no roofed area for women and the roofed area
for men was also substantially reduced.
The Tourism Ministry and the police provided data on the
large number of visitors expected to come to Jerusalem during
Chanukah with plans to visit the Kosel Maarovi, including
many families from Eretz Yisroel and abroad. As a
result, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation sought a
temporary solution.
Based on consultations with HaRav Shmuel Rabinovitz, the rov
of the Kosel, as well as the security and safety restrictions
at the site, a decision was made to erect a tent for a
limited period in the hopes the renovation work will be
completed soon.
