American Agudas Yisroel Delegation Tours Pledges Aid for
Northern Cities
By Y. Ariel
A delegation of Agudas Yisroel of America is joining Degel
HaTorah and local Agudas Yisroel representatives to assist
northern residents. The delegation toured communities and
cities harmed by the war and met with local rabbonim and
other representatives, promising to assist families and
individuals who suffered financially as a result of missile
attacks as well as organizations that incurred debts in order
to assist them.
The delegation included MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, Rabbi Shmuel
Bloom, executive vice president of Agudas Yisroel of America,
Rabbi Avrohom Rubinstein, deputy mayor of Bnei Brak, Rabbi
Chanoch Zeibert, general secretary of Agudas Yisroel, and MK
Rabbi Yaakov Cohen.
The idea to provide aid took shape after Rabbi Chaim
Williger, who represents UTJ on the Haifa City Council, told
Rabbi Gafni and Rabbi Rubinstein about his extensive
activities in the bomb shelters, including distribution of
food, Tehillim and other sifrei kodesh. Rabbi
Williger said he encountered families and individuals
struggling financially after they were prevented from earning
their living during the war. Rabbi Gafni and Rabbi Rubinstein
then contacted Rabbi Bloom, who arranged funding for northern
residents.
The delegation began with a tour of Tiberius followed by
Chatzor, Tzfas, Carmiel, Rechasim and Haifa.
The aid will be funneled through local rabbinical councils
and activists, who will provide recommendations on how to
transfer funding to the war victims.
