Sharp Rise in Home Burglaries in Bnei Brak

by A. Cohen

Police arrested a thief trying to break into a car on Rechov Chida in Bnei Brak Monday morning, after he was spotted by a local resident.

Chief Inspector Ehud Hershkovitz, who executed the arrest, says the incidence of theft has increased in Bnei Brak recently. On Shabbos parshas Emor alone 14 apartments were broken into in Kiryat Herzog.

Hershkovitz attributes the rise to the presence of workers not authorized to stay in Israel overnight. By day they work for building contractors and by night they hide at construction sites and elsewhere, venturing out in the middle of the night and on weekends to carry out thefts.
