MK Rabbi Gafni Demands Mikveh and Eiruv in Nitzanim
by G. Lazer
During a Knesset Committee tour of the temporary housing site
at Nitzanim, MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni was astonished to find that
the planners of the site designed to accommodate Gush Katif
evacuees had no plans to construct either a mikveh or
an eiruv, although the majority of the incoming
residents are from the religious sector.
Rabbi Gafni stressed the importance of the matter to the
officials in charge and soon afterwards called the Religious
Services Director at the Prime Minister's Office and the
Director General of the Housing Ministry, demanding the
construction of a mikveh and an eiruv. Rabbi
Gafni said that the settlers would not be able to move in
until basic religious services were completed to their
satisfaction.
Rabbi Gafni told Yated Ne'eman that he subsequently
received a phone call from the Prime Minister's Office
reporting that they would honor his request and the matter
would receive top priority. Surveyors were dispatched
immediately to begin planning the construction of the
mikveh.
