Tensions Rise as Troops and Settlers Clash

The struggle is intensifying as for the first time on Monday a uniformed soldier, who was not on active duty, called upon his comrades not to obey their orders, and another soldier fired his weapon into the air during incidents with settlers.

Netanya Budget Includes Kollel Funding for First Time

For the first time in the history of Netanya, the capital of the Sharon Region, a paragraph has been introduced into the municipal budget for 2005 to provide funding for yeshivas and kollelim following a prolonged struggle by Degel HaTorah councilmen. Shinui representatives tried to torpedo the initiative but Rabbi Moshe Lachover and Rabbi Yaakov Levy of Degel HaTorah won broad support in the city council.

IDF Historical Research on Yom Kippur War

The IDF distributed a revised version of research that its Historical Branch conducted in 1992 on the Yom Kippur War. The report has not been released up until now, due to the opposition of various retired senior officers who were involved in the war. However, a year ago, Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon ordered that the research be updated and published.

500 Volunteers to Help Clean Up Jerusalem

The City of Jerusalem has decided to seek 500 volunteers to help improve the city's appearance.

As part of the "Yerushalayim Berosh Naki" project and the municipality's policy of maximizing Jerusalem residents' involvement in cleanup and urban improvement efforts, the municipality has launched an environmental watch program in conjunction with the community administrations and the Jerusalem Society for Community Centers.

At this time of year, there are 3 types of onions on the market: a) specially-grown ("Gush Katif") onions, b) onions from the new crop, with scanty yellow peel, c) onions left from the previous season, with dark brown peel.
