The Vaad Harabbonim Le'inyonei Tzedokoh hotline has been open
around the clock to handle the donations pouring in from
around the country and around the world for the Purim
campaign. The positive response follows the support shown by
gedolei Yisroel at an event held in Jerusalem to mark
the opening of the tzedokoh drive.
The receiving rabbonim for the contributions to be passed
onto impoverished families report that Jews of all stations
in life are donating more than they can afford to extract
families from crisis situations. The Vaad notes the 1,380
families designated to receive the funds is the highest
number ever selected. Many of these families are in a state
of terrible want and require enormous sums to extract them
from their present situations.
The Vaad has forged a detailed plan to carry out the
directives of maronon verabonon to distribute the funds
in cash on Purim Day itself. According to the plan, Vaad
representatives in every city and town will collect the funds
from the receiving rabbonim, provide cash for the checks and
give all of the money directly to the families designated.
This year donated metal boxes have been placed at botei
knesses and mikvaos. Every day the boxes are emptied
at the Vaad offices in the presence of the rabbonim, who are
the only key-holders.
The public is being called upon to make contributions using
the special boxes, through the receiving rabbonim in every
location or by calling 1-800-22-36-36 or *072 from any
cellular phone. Special requests or requests for praying for
someone can be sent by fax to 02-5000114.
