HaRav Karelitz Bans Kibbutz Nes Ho'amim
In a special letter addressed to one of the organizers of a
weekend vacation package called "Nofesh Piut
Vehischazkus" scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Shabbos
Parshas Toldos at the Kibbutz Nes Ho'amim Guesthouse, HaRav
Nissim Karelitz said that participating in the vacation
package is strictly forbidden. The letter goes on to explain
that because the organizers did not honor their pledge not to
organize vacation packages at the kibbutz "we will make it
known to the public that you have lost your kashrus standing
(chezkas kashrus) and one cannot rely on you in any
way."
In the past Lev L'Achim's anti-missionary department issued
numerous warnings not to hold events at that kibbutz, whose
members are Christians and where Christian motifs are on
display as part of attempts to bridge the gap between
Christians and Jews.
Some months ago, following consultation with HaRav Yitzchok
Zilberstein, Lev L'Achim notified the guesthouse of a series
of changes that would have to be made in order to accommodate
religious visitors. But the guesthouse refused to implement
the demands.
In Av 5764, when ads for vacation packages at the kibbutz
guesthouse were placed in religious newspapers Lev L'Achim
contacted the organizers, Netivot and Eretz Chemda, demanding
they cancel the events. After the organizers claimed this
would involve a major loss they made a commitment to HaRav
Nissim Karelitz that would be the last time they organized a
vacation at the site. Thus when HaRav Karelitz learned
recently a vacation had again been organized at the kibbutz
he ruled it was strictly prohibited.
