Gedolei Yisroel were to attend a large event held
Tuesday night to honor the Torah and its lomdim by
announcing the founding of the Beitar Illit branch of Itim
LeTorah to increase the number of shiurim available to
every stratum of the city's population.
A letter by Maran HaRav Eliashiv was sent to be read aloud
along with other letters of support and the central address
was given by HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman, shlita.
Other speakers included HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, the Gavad of
Erlau, the Admor of Biale, HaRav Shabtai Attun and local
rabbonim.
Recently a distinguished delegation made a round of visits in
the homes of gedolei Yisroel, including the home of
HaRav Eliashiv, to invite them to take part in the large
event held in Beitar Illit to honor the Torah. Maranan
verabonon expressed their pleasure over the initiative to
engage in this lofty enterprise, offering their encouragement
and blessings for success to those working to promote this
holy endeavor. They signed a call to city residents to
increase activities promoting Torah study.
The delegation was headed by the mayor Rabbi Yitzchok
Pindrus, Vice Mayor Rabbi Meir Rubinstein, Deputy Mayor Rabbi
Akiva Ovitz, City Councilman Rabbi Yitzchok Ravitz, and
joined by rabbonim and community leaders.
The gathering was at the events hall at Rechov R' Akiva 34 in
Beitar Illit and in a large tent erected nearby.
