On every 20th of the month during the current fiscal year,
Bezeq donates 5 percent of the income from phone calls made
that day to community organizations for the sick and
needy.
To mark 20 years since its founding, the company announced a
charity campaign and, over the course of the year, Bezeq made
contributions to organizations operating within various
population sectors in need of support. On every 20th of the
month Bezeq donated at least NIS 200,000.
Bezeq Directorate Chairman Attorney M. Mazer says, "We set
for ourselves a goal of commemorating Bezeq's 20th year with
a gesture toward the community. We gave donations to non-
government organizations and social organizations working on
a broad spectrum of issues while raising the public's
awareness of these social issues that could not always be
covered in the media. Through Bezeq's contributions these
organizations were able to develop and implement unique
projects for which, without the contribution, resources could
not be allotted."
Bezeq gave 12 different organizations a total of NIS 2.8
million. For example NIS 257,000 went to Ezer Mizion to
provide a nationwide database for a bone-marrow donor
program. The funds were used to check 1,150 bone-marrow
samples at a lab in Los Angeles. These samples were then
added to the national bone-marrow fund.
Aleh received NIS 263,000 for the purchase of equipment used
to rehabilitate babies with cerebral palsy and developmental
delays at a special center currently being set up in Bnei
Brak. The money has already been used to purchase the
rehabilitation equipment as well as playground equipment for
the childcare center.
Chasdei Naomi received NIS 241,000 for the purchase of a
refrigerated truck to gather and transport products from food
manufacturers around the country to distribution points.
Shema received NIS 252,000 to set up a national pool of
hearing devices for children, a lending program for
replacement devices for the needy or in the case of loss,
damage, breakage, pressing financial need, etc.
