HaRav Ezriel Auerbach, and HaRav Mordechai Gross became
members of the Shearis Yisroel beis din last week, at
an impressive ceremony held at the home of Maran HaRav Yosef
Sholom Eliashiv, shlita. The new appointments promise
to elevate the Shearis Yisroel kashrus organization, founded
by HaRav Shach and HaRav Chaim Shaul Karelitz zt"l.
The appointment notice was signed by HaRav Tzvi Webber, HaRav
Tzvi Friedman, HaRav Eliezer Halevi Dunner. All of the
members of the Shearis Yisroel beis din arrived at
HaRav Eliashiv's home to receive his blessings. The first
speaker at the gathering was HaRav Tzvi Weissfish, rosh
yeshiva of Yeshivas HaRan and the nephew of Shearis Yisroel
founder HaRav Chaim Shaul Karelitz. HaRav Weissfish, who has
helped Shearis Yisroel considerably since its founding,
stressed the importance of bringing the two prominent
rabbonim into the beis din and spoke the praises of
Shearis Yisroel's great founders.
HaRav Eliashiv blessed the move warmly, saying HaRav Auerbach
and HaRav Gross were sure to help advance and establish
Shearis Yisroel and that it should be strengthened and
assisted in all matters. He also said the appointments would
help defend Shearis Yisroel against recent efforts to harm
the kashrus organization through various lies and libels.
The beis din members then took advantage of the
opportunity to pose various halachic questions to Maran,
shlita. The beis din members then entered the
adjacent room where they held the first meeting of the
beis din with the additional two members.
HaRav Ezriel Auerbach, HaRav Eliashiv's son-in-law, has
served as the rov of Kehillas Chanichei Hayeshivos in Bayit
Vegan for many years. One of Jerusalem's leading
poskim, his home has become a magnet for bnei
Torah seeking answers to halachic questions, and since
the founding--with HaRav Eliashiv's encouragement--of the
beis horo'oh at Beis Medrash Rashi on Rechov Tzefania,
HaRav Auerbach has answered questions together with the other
Shearis Yisroel beis din members and morei
tzedek.
HaRav Mordechai Gross, av beis din of Chanichei
Hayeshivos in Bnei Brak, was among the founders of the
Shearis Yisroel kashrus association, together with the late
Shearis Yisroel gavad HaRav Chaim Shaul Karelitz,
after being nominated by HaRav Shach. HaRav Gross is widely
known as one of Bnei Brak's leading poskim and also
serves as the rov of Beis Medrash Ohel Tomor (for Yeshivas
Ponovezh alumni).
Shearis Yisroel is hard at work expanding and improving
operations, in light of numerous requests by factories and
business owners interested in receiving its top kashrus
supervision. Shearis Yisroel representatives say that at an
upcoming meeting the beis din members will discuss
ways to grant more hechsherim while upholding the
organization's uncompromising kashrus standards, which allow
bnei Torah to eat Shearis Yisroel products, with no
doubts or concerns.
