The Knesset Finance Committee approved new regulations
regarding harnessing children in car seats and seat belts.
According to the new regulations one may not transport
children under the age of 14 in the front seat -- even with a
standard seat belt -- unless a safety device appropriate for
the child's age is installed.
Children under the age of four must be harnessed with an age-
appropriate device even in the back seat.
Children under the age of three must sit in a car seat.
Children between the ages of three and eight must sit in a
car seat or use a booster seat.
Children under the age of one must be buckled in a car seat
facing backwards and children may not sit where airbags are
installed.
The efficacy of car seats in reducing mortality and injury
rates among children has been clearly proven. Mortality and
injury rates are significantly lower among infants in
backward-facing car seats, toddlers in forward-facing car
seats and children in booster seats.
