Pesach Sheini falls on Monday, 14 Iyar (May 23). Tachanun is not said and the minhag is to eat matzos during this day. The Chida writes that we should increase our simchah on Pesach Sheini since it is kodosh to Hashem.

Lag B'Omar falls on Friday, 18 Iyar (May 27).

A four-day kashrus conference opened at the Renaissance Hotel in Jerusalem on Monday, bringing together heads of the leading kashrus organizations in Israel and around the world. The first-of-its-kind conference organized by Machon Maskil LeDovid will address a variety of kashrus issues currently relevant around the world. The conference schedule includes shiurim, workshops, guidance and information exchange.


Shinui to Receive NIS 625 Million for Supporting the Budget

The Knesset Finance Committee approved budget transfers totaling NIS 1.7 billion ($390 million) Monday, including NIS 625 million ($140 million) promised to Shinui in payment for its support of the state budget.

Following the approval of the state budget for 2005 and the implementation of the coalition agreement, according to which the budgets for all Torah institutions—including added funds agreed upon in the budget agreement signed previously—will be included in the basic budget, Torah institutions have begun to receive their monthly allocations on a regular, orderly basis.


Antisemitism Alleged at a U.K. University

Columbia University in the City of New York may be getting more press coverage, but evidence about instances of antisemitic behavior at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London has also been delivered to Colin Bundy, the head of the school, with a threat of legal action should he not implement his own school's anti-discrimination rules.

MK Rabbi Ravitz Warns Knesset Against Constitution

"I would like to warn that if we do not bravely confront but run headlong to legislate a constitution, whether because of the primaries or due to nationalist belief, during this summer sitting of the Knesset we are liable to cause a catastrophe," Deputy Welfare Minister MK Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz warned on Monday during a meeting of the Knesset plenum to discuss three no-confidence motions tabled by the opposition.
