Bedikas Hamozone Cahalocho — Volume 1 new revised and
expanded edition
by D. Plaut
Since its appearance about seven years ago, the sefer
Bedikas Hamozone Cahalocho (vol. 1 and 2) has become
popular as the authoritative guidebook on avoiding the
transgressions involved in consuming insects. Clear and
comprehensive, and accompanied by hundreds of high-quality
color photographs illustrating the text, it has earned its
place in many homes as a reliable and useful source book for
guidance in the day-to-day preparation of food.
Rav Moshe Vaye, author of the sefer, is known as the
unparalleled expert in this field, and continues to answer
questions from the public at large as well as serving as a
consultant to kashrus organizations and food producers.
Since the first volume was originally published, neither Rav
Vaye nor the bugs have rested on their laurels, and so it has
become necessary to update the information. He has therefore
published a new edition of Volume 1 with additions and
changes, including an appendix about mushrooms, with
teshuvos from Rav Y.S. Eliashiv; new entries such as
baby greens and capers; and expanded information on onions
and seaweed, as well as a perpetual calendar for calculating
the production date from the code on the can.
For those who already have the sefer, the author has
put out a pamphlet containing just the changes and additions,
including the new pictures in color. For those who don't yet
have it, now is the time to avail yourself of the opportunity
to buy the freshly revised edition.
